Shared with PublicMy name is Bridget Kane, Chair of the Broome County Democratic Committee. Last night, July 8th, 2020, there was a special meeting of the BCDC Executive Committee to discuss the recent events regarding the Deputy Mayor of the Village of Endicott and the very inappropriate Facebook repost of a meme stating “White Lives Matter!!!! Bet you wont [sic] repost.”

After discussion, the following motion was passed by the BCDC Executive Committee:

A Motion that the Committee make a strong statement condemning the behavior of Cheryl Chapman, Deputy Mayor, Village of Endicott and Linda Jackson, Mayor, Village of Endicott, and calling for their resignations.

The recent actions of the elected leadership of the Village of Endicott are not only racist but a dereliction of duty that both the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor were sworn to uphold.

The Broome County Democratic Party takes a dim view of such behavior. We stand firmly behind our Party Platform, which says, in part, that “we will push for a societal transformation to make it clear that black lives matter and that there is no place for racism in our country.”

The preceding excerpt makes it perfectly clear – there is no place for racism in our country and the Broome County Democratic Committee stands 100% behind this belief. We cannot condone anyone’s actions, a member of the Democratic Party or not, that go against the principle that Black Lives Matter.

As a result of the above, The Broome County Democratic Committee is formally requesting the immediate resignation of Cheryl Chapman, Deputy Mayor of the Village of Endicott and Linda Jackson, Mayor of the Village of Endicott.
