Letters to the Editor
By Mike Mee, Endicott.
Press & Sun Bulletin, Binghamton NY.
I was distressed to read that Endicott Mayor Linda Jackson has stated that opponents of the proposed battery recycling plant have not proven their case.
Well, guess what? They don’t have to. That’s backward under the rules of logic. The mayor and her allies, as the proponents of the idea, are obligated to show the plant IS safe, and they can’t, because the long-term effects of the gases, particulates and other effluents such an operation produces are not known.
With its unknowable effects, the proposal reminds me of the German company which, in the early 20th century, introduced a safe, non-addictive morphine substitute. They called it “heroin.”
The recycling plant is a terrible idea and must be rejected.
