On Monday, Feb. 1, the law that would have allowed a lithium ion battery incinerator to be placed in the heart of Endicott was rescinded, to the relief of thousands of citizens.
This was an example of democracy at work. The people of Endicott and concerned individuals researched the issue and learned how harmful this process would be to both people and the environment. They shared their findings and educated the public. They then campaigned for and elected trustees who would listen to their voices. In the end, those voices were heard.
It is now those same citizens who will pull together to revamp laws to allow clean industry and businesses in the Village of Endicott. This is what is meant by “of the people, by the people and for the people.”
