NoBurnBroome warns Trustees that attending SungEel’s private meeting might violate State law.

Press Release from NoBurnBroome

Today NoBurnBroome.com sent a letter to the Endicott Village Board (with a copy to the Town of Union and Broome County legislators) indicating that an attendance of a majority of their members at the private meeting organized by SungEel’s Public Relations firm, Stephen Donnelly & Associates of Owego, on Monday June 29 would violate New York State’s “Open Meeting laws.”

SungEel is the owner of the proposed Endicott lithium-ion battery-recycling-incineration process. Their PR firm states in its invitation to Monday’s meeting:

“The purpose of this Zoom session is to inform you, a respected leader for our local community, of the facts related to the SungEel project as well as dispel the myths that have been presented by a select few individuals.”

In its letter to the Endicott Village Board, NoBurnBroome wrote

“SungEel’s PR firm’s characterization of our opposition to this plant as consisting of “myths that have been presented by a select few” is both inaccurate and unfair. From its outset NoBurnBroome’s views have been transparent, discussed openly and science-based. An objective assessment of the response to our efforts would indicate that we represent the majority of the citizens in Endicott, not “a select few.” See our June 22nd letter to Governor Cuomo signed by 80 residents of Broome County.

In contrast to this exercise NoBurnBroome will hold a People’s Town Hall on SungEel’s process inviting all residents of Broome County to attend via Zoom at 6:30 pm on Thursday, July 2nd. At this meeting no restrictions will be applied, questions need not be pre-submitted in writing and SungEel is invited to attend. Zoom details will be available on the NoBurnBroome.com website.

At the meeting NoBurnBroome’s experts will provide details of their scientific concerns about this project, as outlined in a White Paper released to the media yesterday. SungEel is invited to respond to the White Paper.
