Former Mayors John Bertoni and Michael Collella appeared April 29 with retired Chemistry professor Paul Connett at the Clark Street site where SungEel MMC Americas wants to recycle the batteries commonly used in electric vehicles and cell phones.

The protestors say the plans do not provide protections against pollution from incinerating the materials.

Current Mayor Linda Jackson says the developers have submitted necessary documentation to state regulators that meet and exceed Department of Environmental Conservation standards.

There had been a video conference public hearing on the $23-million plans scheduled for April 20 but that was abruptly rescheduled for May 4th when new information on industrial codes was brought up.

The new Zoom conference is set for 7 p.m. Monday, May 4.
